TPC in Processed Foods

Thermal Pest Control (TPC) is finding unexpected new uses. In southern Chile, food processing company Aconcagua Foods is testing the technology on tomatoes grown for paste stock.

Aconcagua Foods is going full throttle with trials of Thermal Pest Control (TPC), a technology using blasts of hot air to control pests and disease. The company produces tomato paste used as a base to make sauces, ketchup, juice and other tomato products.

While the technology devised by grower Florencio Lazo was first intended for use on grapes, it is now being tried on a range of fruit and produce, from cherries to plums, blackberries, lettuce and tomatoes.
